The fire sent toxic smoke above the Trenayr Road yard and into surrounding areas in Trenayr, north of Grafton, on Tuesday evening.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews were called just after 6pm, with over 15 fire trucks attending to battle explosions and flames.
It took teams of emergency services hours to subdue the fire to a controllable level.
Authorities gained control of the fire by 9pm and have stayed at the yard through to Wednesday morning to monitor for hot spots.
NSW Police, NSW Ambulance and Rural Fire Service (RFS) were also in attendance.
The fire is now under investigation with police probing into the exact cause of the intense fireball.
