Joanna Jensen is a well-known local Nambucca artist who loves to create whimsical, playful mixed media works.
A prolific artist, she is constantly creating in her studio.
Joanna will be presenting black and white and highly coloured fantasy works in her exhibition titled Kindred Spirits from Wednesday, December 1 to Monday, January 3, 2022 at the Stringer Gallery in the Nambucca Community and Arts Centre.
Her works are mainly in small scale, with a profusion of figures including cats, mermaids, owls and humans.
She claims inspiration from Lewis Carol's Alice In Wonderland and another book about Carol titled Alice Through the Pillar Box, which details the author's artistic talent as well, regarding, as an example, the design of postage stamps.
She has always had a fascination for mermaids, but you will see that the new artist of the month does not present a typical mermaid.
Using her imagination, childhood memories, travel experiences and her love for nature and people, Joanna's work has been a constant joy throughout her life.
She previously taught at Katoomba High and Jamieson High in Penrith.
At her studio, 'Lynwood' in Springwood, Joanna taught the finer points of art to students from six to 16 years every Saturday.
The Stringer Gallery will also be exhibiting a new members' show titled "Colours of Summer".
Kindred Spirits: Wednesday, December 1 to Monday, January 3, 2022
Colours of Summer: Wednesday, December 1 to Satruday January 29 2022.
Stringer Gallery Gallery Hours: Monday to Friday 10am to 3pm. Saturday 9:30am to 12 noon.
