Trainer Tony Newing said solid form in the lead up meant the result was on the cards.
"He's been racing well for a long time now, he's either won or placed in his last six or seven starts so it's no surprise to see him win a Cup race," Newing said to the Argus.
"He pretty much ran as expected, we thought he might've been a little bit further back than what he got to but just with lack of speed in the race, he got us closer."
With the Newing stable based in Gosford, the trainer was happy to see his trip made worthwhile.
"Sure does (make the trip worth it) ,I don't mind the travel as long as we get the result," Newing added.
"We've had a lot of luck here over the years and won a few races."
