Former Rover Kurt Prosper selected in Australian indoor cricket open men's summer training squad

Kempsey's Kurt Prosper is one of those cricketers after his selection in the Australian indoor cricket open men's summer training squad.

Prosper, now living in Brisbane, is no stranger to the Australian setup having represented his country at an under 17s and 21s level.

The under 21s trans-Tasman series in 2019 was the last time he and his teammates have been able to don the green and gold.

That five-match series was played in Palmerston North, New Zealand, with the 21s women and opens men's and women's also participating.

This year isn't the first time a training squad has been named with two summer programs beforehand.

"They ran a similar program last year, due to COVID we weren't able to get into the indoor centres and actually train or play so they decided to take it online and really get into the outside of the court aspect of the game," Prosper told the Argus.

Selection in the squad has been off the back of the trans-Tasman series with players from under 21s and opens squads considered for selection.

"It'll be good to be around opens players and get a few key insights into how they play," Prosper added.

"All the sessions planned are online based with webinars covering wellbeing off the court, training programs, nutrition and strategic thinking about the game.

"It's an opportunity to get online and grow the game in a different way."
