He had five winners last season, including a double for his master Kempsey trainer Hilary Dew and Wyong mentor John Cooper, at Port Macquarie in May but this season he is keen to do much better now that some top trainers are using him.
He won for Port trainer John Sprague on four-year-old mare Shootforthestar ($4.40) and for Ballina mentor Mark Gorman on five-year-old gelding Sugar Zone ($7.50) at Casino.
As for an early 21st celebration, Barrie said: "I kept it quiet."
He reckons he is ready to ride more winners in being 54kgs after his 3kgs claim and has an agent in former jockey Craig Rixon.
"I want to make every post a winner from now on," Barrie added.
Shootforthestar had only recently been transferred to Sprague from last season's premier country winner Kris Lees from Newcastle.
