The other game was Northern Storm vs Taree Wildcats with the former winning 4-0.
Sawtell vs Kempsey Saints was postponed with Coffs Tigers and Boambee playing tonight and Port United vs Port Saints tomorrow night. All fixtures were cancelled due to rain.
With injuries to key players Saturday's match against the ladder leaders Coffs City United was never going to be an easy task for the Rangers.
Coffs dominated to finish 5-0 victors but coach Simon Tamblyn applauded the effort of his side.
"We were competitive against one of the best teams in the competition, they beat Lake Macquarie in FFA Cup in mid-June, so they're a strong side," he told the Argus.
With numerous players out, Optus Park was filled by youngsters with Mitch Korn one of the standouts.
"Mitch has been outstanding all year, we had a backline that was all 18 year olds, we had two 15 year old debutants, we competed and that's what you want to see, they didn't stop and played the full 90 minutes," Tamblyn said.
Tamblyn added Coffs were just too clinical on any mishaps.
"We made a mistake and they punished us, that was basically how that game went," he explained.
"They've got quality strikers."
Rangers are at home again this weekend, playing against the last placed Taree Wildcats while Kempsey Saints verse Boambee at Boambee.
