Nearly 2000 people turned out for the annual Good Friday fundraiser to watch 65 competitors battle it out for prize money, trophy buckles, and ultimate bragging rights.
Rodeo director Josh Britten, a born and bred Smithtown resident, says 2021 has turned into the biggest year yet for the annual not for profit event.
"Unfortunately, we had to cancel last year due to COVID-19 restrictions, but the Lightning Ridge Black Opal Bull and Bronc Ride came back better than ever in 2021," he said.
"In 2019, we had 1800 through the gate; this time, we had roughly 2500. Every year it's becoming bigger, and more successful."
Organised by Josh's wife Tiarna, president of the Lightning Ridge Pony Club, vice president Simone Gibson, and the committee, the bull ride donates all its profits back to the club to help rebuild and maintain it.
The worthy cause has attracted competitors from all over, including Kempsey bull riding superstar Levi Ward who made the long trip to tackle the 11 and under 14s mini bull ride.

Along with the record number of spectators, Josh says there was another surprise for the 2021 event.
"For the first time, we had a real black opal in the buckle for the winner of the opens, mined here at Lighting Ridge, and donated by Designer Miners," he said.
"I've competed in rodeo's all over NSW And Queensland, and in my experience, we are the only ones who have genuine jewels in our buckles."
The Lightning Ridge Black Opal Bull and Bronc Ride will return in 2022, with plans to make it even bigger and better.
"Thank you to all the volunteers who busted themselves to assist us, and helped make the night run so smoothly, and to our sponsors who supported us this year, and who have continued to support us year after year," Josh said.
"Congratulations to all winners and place getters; I'm sure there are plenty of happy cowboys out there; we hope to see you all again."
