SEVERAL national parks and reserves across the Macleay have re-opened to visitors over the weekend thanks to the tireless efforts of National Parks and Wildlife Services (NPWS) crews.

In the aftermath of the recent flooding, NPW staff continue the extensive work to assess hazards, clear flood debris and make repairs to access roads, visitor areas, campgrounds and walking trails.
Many areas remain closed until they can be made safe; however, the following sites, including campgrounds, are now open to visitors:
Macleay
- Trial Bay - Arakoon NP
- Point Plomer - Limeburners NP
- Delicate - Goolwah NP
- Hungry Gate - Hat Head NP
Port Macquarie
- Diamond Head - Crowdy Bay NP
- Kylies Beach - Crowdy Bay NP
- Googik track
"With school holidays now in full swing, we're working hard to re-open our parks and campgrounds where it is safe to do so," NPWS Acting Area Manager Ben Stevenson said.
"Some areas are likely to remain closed for a longer period as they require more work to make them safe for visitors.
"The community's understanding is appreciated as the extensive damage assessment, clean-up and repair operation continues."
If you are intending on visiting a Mid North Coast park these holidays:
- Check and observe closures. Check the NPWS and live traffic websites frequently, particularly close to travelling. Do not enter closed areas.
- Do not cross floodwaters. Do not cross flooded creeks and flood waters as the recent rains have likely altered conditions of causeways.
- Impassable access roads. Some park roads and access roads may not be passible and could close at short notice. Check websites or call ahead in remote areas. Access to some parks has changed due to road closures.
- Be mindful of trees. Soggy ground and sustained rains increase the risk of tree falls and failures. Do not shelter or camp under trees.
- Use the NPWS trip intention form to notify someone about your trip.
- If in doubt, leave it out. If you have doubts about your planned visit, postpone your stay to a drier, safer time.
