SOUTH West Rocks Lions Club held their annual Australia Day event for the community today, it looked a little different this year due to COVID measures, but the schedule was mostly the same.

"We had a short flag raising ceremony at Point Briner, conducted by Lions Club members, TS Culgoa Navy Cadets and supported by piper Les Jenkinson," club treasurer, David Dickinson said.
"Wendy Grose, formerly of the Royal Opera, performed the National Anthem, she was just brilliant."

Local Ian Burnett was also announced as the Lions Club Citizen of the Year, which he won for his work in Dune Care.
After the ceremony, the club held their sausage sizzle breakfast for the community at the Horseshoe Bay Shelter Shed, and while there weren't the usual crowds, there was still plenty of hungry people keen for some free food.
"It's been a bit quieter this year, but with everything that has happened in the last 12 months, it's understandable," David said.
"We are just happy to be back out holding events in the community, for most of last year we weren't able to conduct events or fundraise.
"You never know with COVID, but we hope to get back to a normal schedule this year, our next big outing should ANZAC Day."
