Training the next generation of GPs takes a team, and local GP training provider GP Synergy has recognised Louise Ahearn of Kempsey Medical Centre as the GP Synergy Practice Manager of the Year for the North Coast training region.

Ms Ahearn has been with Kemspey Medical Centre for 15 years, stepping up to the role of practice manager four years ago.
She is motivated by the opportunities that being an accredited GP training practice provides.
"Being able to teach the doctors in our practice, we really hope we're able to retain them at the end of their training for our practice and the Kempsey community," Ms Ahearn said.
"We've had some wonderful registrars over the years, so it's been fantastic, they bring new and fresh ideas.
"The pandemic was a big learning curve, and we were lucky enough that our registrars are also procedural GPs and had experience working in emergency departments.
"My focus has been on the practice and keeping us and the community safe so I'm in awe as I had no idea I'd been nominated, let alone had a chance of winning," Ms Ahearn said.
Georgina van de Water, CEO of local general practice education and training provider GP Synergy, said the training of GP registrars relies heavily on accredited general practices.
"Practice managers are integral to practices maintaining their training accreditation and in supporting the training of GP registrars," Mrs van de Water said.
"It's practice managers that help registrars navigate the behind-the-scenes workings of general practice and support their placement and training within the practice, often helping them settle into a new community.
"There are nearly 170 accredited general practices in the North Coast training region, currently training more than 225 GP registrars.
"GP Synergy is delighted to be able to present the annual Practice Manager of the Year award for the North Coast to Ms Ahearn in recognition of her commitment to excellence in general practice education and training."
