It was love at first sight for the couple, and 70 years on they are still very much in love.
Kevin and Monica didn't meet until their late teens and early 20s while they were on a holiday. Kevin was raised in Sydney, while Monica was born in Inverell before her family relocated to Sydney.
The couple met while holidaying in the Burragorang Valley and Kevin said they were both smitten after that.
"We both returned home to Sydney after meeting each other while on holiday. We returned to work and our separate lives, but I ended up calling Monica to see if she wanted to go out and she said yes," he said.
"After that we were seeing each other about six times a week."
The pair became inseparable and it wasn't long before they decided to tie the knot surrounded by family and friends in Ashfield on October 21, 1950.
"We've been married a long time now and it's been wonderful," Kevin said.
The couple had two children together and when their daughter relocated to the Macleay, Kevin and Monica followed.
"We moved to the Macleay around 30 years ago to help our daughter with her house. There was a house for sale in Kempsey, so we bought it," Kevin said.
"We've been in Kempsey ever since, it's a lovely spot."
As well as their two children, Kevin and Monica have six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
When asked what their secret is to a long and happy marriage, Kevin said it's all about give and take.
"We're both very different and bring our own views and thoughts together. Whenever we've had an issue over the years, we reconcile and talk through it.
"Talking is something we have always worked on when we've had our differences.
"It's really all about give and take, you need to be able to compromise and understand the other person."
Kevin said the couple have enjoyed the past 70 years together and are looking forward to even more.
"We've had a great life together and are looking forward to more to come," he said.
