Kempsey Officer in Charge, Inspector Martin Burke, says there are some simple security tips to help prevent motorcycle riders from falling victim to theft.
"A high tensile chain and matching security lock through the rear wheel or frame of the bike to railings or parking it under a convenient street light will help deter opportunistic thieves," he said.
"Never leave your helmet or other riding equipment unsecured and alongside your bike, and always house your scooter or bike in a garage - if that isn't possible, always cover the vehicle up when leaving it."

Not only are the police looking to curb the increase in thefts, but also unregistered riders.
"For unregistered trail bike riders, their behaviour is a major concern for police - they are not only placing their own lives at risk but also the safety of innocent people around them," Inspector Burke said.
"When riders are detected breaking the law, police will take appropriate action by issuing infringements, charges, license suspensions and seizing bikes."
