This year's theme, Reimagining our Water Future, encourages us all to think about our current water practices and what we can do as individuals and as communities to conserve water and inspire a more sustainable water future.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Kempsey Shire Council is unfortunately unable to hold any events to mark Water Week this year.
Previous events during recent years have included community tours of the Steuart McIntyre Dam and some of our local water treatment plants as well as Whizzy the Water Drop visiting local schools to teach students about water saving habits.
Council is encouraging the community to get involved in some of the various online events and initiatives supported by the Australian Water Association.
Residents are also encouraged to practice their own water savings habits during the week and beyond.
Some of the online events being held include the Water Night Challenge which encourages everyone to only use one bucket of water, no taps, no showers and no running water between 5pm to 5am on Thursday, October 22.
Residents are also encouraged to participate in Walk for Water.
The event encourages Australians to either walk, run or ride for one hour a day for five days to raise awareness about the one in ten people who don't have access to clean water close to home.
In fact, there are 263 million people worldwide who spend over 30 minutes walking daily to collect water from a safe source.
Any funds raised through Walk for Water help WaterAid reach people all over the world gain access to clean water.
