Major road improvements and increased safety are the result of a two-year road improvement project to widen and improve Stuarts Point Road which was completed this week.

Over the past two years, Kempsey Shire Council's works team have carried out major improvements along a 3.1km section of Stuarts Point Road from Browns Road to Barbers Lane as well as 200m section of Kings Creek.
The first stage involved the removal of vegetation and widening the road as well as the realignment and resealing of the road, installation of a guard rail and new line marking along the length of Stuarts Point Road.
The second stage saw a major upgrade to a section of Kings Creek Road that was in need of heavy patching and resealing.
The comprehensive project has been delivered through a State Government Regional Road Block Grant and Repair Program of $930,000 and the Federal Government's Blackspot Program funding of $1,353,000.
Council's Manager Infrastructure Delivery, Dylan Reeves, said the project would deliver a significantly improved driver experience and significantly increase safety.
"The upgrade of Stuarts Point Road was a major project identified in council's 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 Operating Plans which has required two years to deliver due to the scope of the work," he said.
"With the increase in traffic over time, Stuarts Point Road was no longer a suitable width and there was quite a lot of vegetation along the sides of the road.
"Coupled with the improvements to the Stuarts Point Foreshore, it's a great result for the community and visitors to the area. The drive into the town and surrounding areas like Grassy Head is now much safer."
Line marking will be completed next week with a final seal to be undertaken within two weeks time.
Council thanked the community for their patience over the duration of the project.
