Police urge travellers to lock up following holiday park break-ins

The long weekend has brought an influx of travellers to the area and police have said thieves are making the most of the situation.

"There have been a number of break-in's at the Crescent Head Holiday Park since Thursday last week. It appears the offenders are taking what they can grab from holidaymakers," Chief Inspector Mick Aldridge said.

"They are entering tents and caravans through tent doors and fly screens."

The thieves have taken a number of personal items including watches, cash, sun glasses and keys.

Police are encouraging residents and holidaymakers to lock up.

"We are encouraging holidaymakers to secure their personal items and reminding them to lock their caravans when leaving," Inspector Aldridge said.

"When people are on holidays they get into that relaxing mode, but unfortunately thieves don't go on holidays.

"There would have been a changeover of travellers in holiday parks over the weekend and this is when thieves will make their move."

In a separate incident, bins along Crescent Head Road were set alight in the early hours of Monday morning.

"There have been reports of bins being destroyed along Crescent Head Road and Blairs Lane. The fire brigade has attended and extinguished the fires," Inspector Aldridge said.

There have been no descriptions provided to police of the offenders in these incidents. Residents and holidaymakers are urged to be on the look out and report any suspicious behaviour to the police.
