Justin Siemek was not required to appear and was instead represented by his lawyer, Eugene Renard.
The matter was heard before Magistrate David O'Neil.
The court heard that an autopsy report remains outstanding and other formal documents are still being produced.
Mr Renard requested the case be brought back to court at a later date.
"It's not a straight forward case, your Honour," Mr Renard said.
Mr Siemek remains in custody and the matter has been adjourned until November 18.
Police were called to a home in Euroka just after 8.30pm on May 27, 2020, following reports of a man armed with a gun.
Justin Siemek, allegedly armed with a firearm, walked out of the property in Euroka and was arrested without incident.
The occupant, a 63-year-old local man, was found fatally injured inside the house and a crime scene was established.
Police said the men were known to one another.
