It's that time of the year when the next generation of surf life savers are about to hit the sand and ocean for the 2020/21 season.

The Kempsey Crescent Head Surf Life Saving season kicks off on September 27 with a registration day on September 12 to coincide with a Surf Life Saving NSW photo session, club information and working bee.
Club president Carl Thurgood said there had been such a positive vibe in preparations for the upcoming season with a number of new initiatives that will be launched.
There will be Sunday Surf Sports offered to the entire community with ocean swims as well as board courses that will be led by Wayne Castro.
It will be held every Sunday at 8.30am and will be open to the entire community, with social memberships starting from $25.
"We live in one of the most idyllic beach locations in Australia and we would love for local people to get involved in our club," Mr Thurgood said.
"We want people to enjoy what we have in our backyard and would love to see people out in the surf in a safe environment, with water safety being offered by our club."
Mr Thurgood is also calling on any interested volunteers who wanted to become involved in club activities from patrolling to nipper age managers and water safety.
Due to numbers, he said the club would only be able to patrol every Sunday until Christmas.
Meanwhile Nipper president Steve Pellen said the club had a strong nipper program with many country and regional champions including Taylah Moffitt, Issy Koivu and Amber Pellen returning for the upcoming season.
The Nippers season is due to start on Sunday October 18.
"Where we live it's important for children to gain the confidence around water safety so they feel safe at the beach," Mr Pellen said.
"Plus Nippers is a great way for kids to not only meet new friends but they will learn skills that will stay with them for life."
All nippers aged over eight must undertake swim proficiencies, which will be conducted on October 11 at Crescent Head Aquatic Centre.
It costs $25 per child and one parent/guardian must be a member of the club, which is an additional $25. Senior members who sign on September 12 will only pay $20. Club swimming caps are $20 each and must be worn each nipper session and for competition.
The new committee also includes vice president Ross Foster, club captain Matt Worrall, secretary Alison Koivu and treasurer Robyn Fuller.
