TODAY'S Black Lives Matter rally in Kempsey saw large numbers head to the streets, rallying as part of the Black Lives Matter movement organised by the family of David Dungay Jnr via the Facebook page, Justice for David Dungay Jnr.

The various rallies throughout Australia have been held to highlight the high rates of indigenous deaths in custody as well as protesting against institutional racism.
Before the march, speeches were made by various members of the Dungay family along with the mother and father of Tane Chatfield, who was found unresponsive in his cell at Tamworth Correctional Centre in 2017.

The rally started at Kempsey Riverside Park, before moving onto Belgrave St where rally participants marched to Kempsey Courthouse.

The march then turned around from there, walking onto York Street and the Kempsey traffic bridge before turning around again and ending at Riverside Park.
There was no sign of a police presence at Riverside Park but once the rally moved onto Belgrave Street the police blocked roads and provided an escort when the march returned onto Belgrave Street from York Street.
Chants of "Whose lives matter? Black Lives Matter" and "What do you we want? Justice. When do we want it? Now" were heard throughout the march.
