The U3A group is known the Macleay Meanderers, and on their weekly walks they have explored many tracks and pathways of 5km to 10km.
They have walked in the townships, on coastal tracks, in State Forests and National Parks.
The 33 best walks were selected for this book with detailed descriptions, each accompanied by a clear map and illustrated with numerous photos.
"This book is a lovely testament to the enterprise and energy of the Kempsey Macleay Valley U3A Meanderers and to the beauty of the Kempsey Shire," KMVU3A president Gabi Brie said.
Kempsey Shire mayor Liz Campbell is also impressed by the venture.
"The suggested walking trails have been chosen and meticulously planned to encourage people of all ages and physical abilities to enjoy the splendour that is abundant within the Macleay Valley that we often take for granted," Cr Campbell said.
"Guiding you through selected paths within our major towns and villages alike, this book will help you to explore some of the most picturesque coastline and countryside on the eastern seaboard."
Health Promotion coordinator Trish Davis from Mid North Cost Local Health noted "there are many health benefits to walking. The link between improved health and well-being through walking is indisputable.
"Sometimes we just need a little push to start moving and this can be found in the guide Macleay Walking Trails."
The printing of the book has been supported by a grant from Kempsey Shire Council. The proceeds from the sale will go to KMVU3A with a donation to the Heart Foundation.
The authors, Christa Schwoebel and John Cruickshanks, provided their time and skills without payment.
Macleay Walking Trails is presented as an A5 paperback with almost 100 pages on glossy paper.
It is available at numerous outlets around the area for $10.
