The Federal Government recently announced that the Kempsey LGA would be eligible for the drought assistance, as well as Junee, Clarence Valley and more than 60 other local government areas across New South Wales.
St Vincent de Paul National Council CEO Toby o Connor urges local farmers to apply as soon as possible.
"Financial support is available now, and Vinnies are processing applications, it's as easy as jumping onto the Vinnies.org.au webpage, or picking up the phone to our call centre," he said.
"Eligible farmers, farmworkers and farm suppliers, in specific LGAs, qualify for a payment of up to $3,000 to help meet necessary household expenses.
"Your main source of income must come from agriculture or related activities, and you must be over the age of 18 to apply."
Vinnies is distributing a total of $60 million of government funding nationally during round 2 of the Drought Community Support Initiative, which commenced in November of last year.
Current program guidelines and eligibility criteria are available at www.business.gov.au/assistance/drought-community-support-initiative.
The Federal Government has listed specific Local Government Areas which are officially drought-declared.
A list of those LGAs serviced by the St Vincent de Paul Society is available at www.vinnies.org.au/page/Find_Help/drought_assistance/ or by calling 1300 846 643.
