Heavy rain drenches the Macleay over the weekend

The whole East Coast was warned about the heavy falls, with areas across the state moving to flood watch over the past few days.

The rain started on Thursday and continued through to Sunday, with the heaviest falls being recorded on Saturday night.

Weatherzone has recorded 150mm at the Kempsey Airport gauge since Thursday, with some areas receiving over 200mm.

"Kempsey received close to its February monthly average of 165mm over four days," Weatherzone meteorologist Brett Dutschke said.

The Macleay River gauge at Georges Creek was read on Monday, February 10 at 7am and a level of 5.1 metres was recorded.

Although the main rain event has eased, more rain is predicted for the Macleay throughout this week.

"There is a good chance of showers and storms for Kempsey through to the weekend," Mr Dutschke said.

"The rain will be more on and off with the highest chance of rain from Tuesday through to Thursday."

There is a 70 per cent chance of 10-20mm of rain for Kempsey on Tuesday and an 80 per cent chance of 20-40mm for Wednesday.

"There are thunderstorms and showers likely for the region throughout the next week," Mr Dutschke said.

"There is potential more rain could fall than is predicted, but it's not expected to be as significant as the past few days."

A number of roads in the Macleay are still impacted by flood water, locals can find the latest road closures on Kempsey Shire Council's Facebook page.

A number of weather warnings remain in place for the Mid North Coast including a severe weather warning for abnormally high tides. A flood watch has also been issued for the area.
