Guy Campbell was the assistant principal of St Paul's College Kempsey for the past seven years and before that was a long-time member of staff.
Mr Campbell said it will be a personal challenge to go from a high school community to a primary school one in 2020.
He's looking forward to working with the younger students at a key developmental time in their lives.
Over a period of about 15 years, Mr Campbell has witnessed students graduate from school, go on to obtain jobs in the workforce and have children of their own.
He said it's been a privilege to teach them and wonderful to witness the next generation of children come through the education system.
Mr Campbell said there's a great team at St Joseph's Primary School and the school plays a vital role in laying the foundation for lifelong learning.
"We know the early years are critically important in helping our children be better equipped to thrive in a variety of communities," he said.
"It is the pledge of the staff to ensure the short and long term success of each student."
Mr Campbell said the world is constantly changing and it's face-paced in nature.
When used appropriately and safety, Mr Campbell said technology can provide students with great opportunities for learning.
While he acknowledged that cyber bullying is an issue, he said it's a problem which is not isolated to schools and is widespread social issue.
"It's important that we teach the appropriate way to communicate with others in a manner which is also safe," he said.
Mr Campbell's positive message is "don't sweat the small stuff and take everything one step at a time".
Outside of school, family is Mr Campbell's focus.
They love to travel as a family within Australia and overseas.
