After a slow 2019, Kempsey-Crescent Head Surf Boat captain Scott Edwards is keen to start the new year.
"We have had a pretty easy 2019, and now with the start of the new year we will be looking to ramp up training in preparation for our next carnival in early January," he said.
"Now that Christmas and New Years have passed, we will be looking at getting our crews together; I'd say we will aim for about six sessions a week."
A few hundred people are expected at the upcoming carnival, with tough crews from all over, but Edwards is confident that the groups from the Macleay will be competitive.
"The 180s have a strong chance, they have won before and are a solid crew," he said.
"All our crews definitely have a shot; it will just come down to how everyone goes on the day, and the conditions we face.
"We also have some strong juniors coming up; they will start training soon as well, I'd say we will look to get them competing next month."
After the upcoming surf boat carnival in early January, the staunch Kempsey-Crescent Head crews will look to compete again on Australia Day in Manly.
