The four theatre complex was officially opened by Kempsey Shire mayor Liz Campbell, Federal Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan, Member for Oxley Melinda Pavey and Property Head for Gowings Chris Mulcahy.
"We knew from research that this cinema would provide an economic benefit for the community," Kempsey Shire mayor Liz Campbell said.
"The cinema has created a positive vibe in the town with people coming out and going to the movies. The theatres are better than I expected and having the local history on the walls is a really nice touch."
Mayor Campbell cut the ribbon alongside Pat Conaghan, Chris Mulcahy and CEO of Majestic Cinemas Kieren Dell.
"This is not just a four cinema complex, it's a place to make memories. It's fantastic for Kempsey. Kempsey deserves the life to be brought back into it," Mr Conaghan said.
"I know there was push back for this project, but everyone should be proud because you stuck to it."
Chris Mulcahy spoke on behalf of Gowings and thanked everyone who was involved in the project.
"Having a local builder, O'Donnell & Hanlon, really added to the project and benefited the local community," Mr Mulcahy said.
CEO of Majestic Cinemas, Kieren Dell agreed and said benefiting the local community was always a goal for the cinema project.
"It's fantastic that we had a local builder, we were able to provide jobs while the construction was taking place and have provided 20 more since being open," he said.
"Thousands of people have come through to see a movie since we've been open. We always wanted to benefit other businesses in the CBD and that has also started happening. Kempsey should be proud."
Guests and dignitaries were treated to some popcorn and previews of upcoming films before enjoying light refreshments at the Depot Cafe.
