Lights, camera, action for Kempsey Cinema

CEO of Majestic Cinemas Kieren Dell took interested locals on tours throughout the cinema to see all of the features before the lucky locals in attendance were some of the first to see a movie screened at the cinema.

"The event was a way to say thank you to people who have been involved in the project and to the tenants of Kempsey Central for putting up with the construction," Kieren said.

"It's a historic night to be here opening the first cinema complex in Kempsey. And after a long time, we are finally here, I hope it was worth the wait."

The cinema has four theatres which can seat 450 people. Between 10 and 14 movies will be able to be screened at a time with up to 170 sessions a week.

Kempsey Shire mayor Liz Campbell was at the event last night and said the complex is something to be proud of.

"People of the Macleay Valley will now have the shared experience of going to the movies together," she said.

"This cinema is something we can be proud of."

After the tours of the complex, locals were treated to a choice of four movies including Fisherman's Friends, Ride Like a Girl, The Lion King and 21 Bridges.

"We picked a range of films for tonight so there was something for everyone to see," Kieren said.

Majestic Cinemas would like to thank Kempsey Shire Council, Gowings Bros, O'Donnell & Hanlon, all of the local builders involved and the Kempsey Central businesses.

The Cinema is now open to the public seven days a week. The current films screening are Frozen 2, Emu Runner, Ford v Ferrari, 21 Bridges, Ride Like a Girl, Charlie's Angels, Knives Out and Fisherman's Friends. Bohemian Rhapsody will also be screened in the coming weeks.

"We wanted to screen some films locals might not have seen this year at the movies as well as new releases."
