Kempsey Shire Council representatives have met with local water carting operators to collectively develop a discount program for people who are facing critical water shortages caused by bushfires.

Council and the water carters will offer discounted water delivery services, prioritised for properties that have experienced fire damage and are within the Kempsey Shire, west of the Pacific Highway.
Council's manager water and sewer, Wes Trotter said the collective businesses recognise the importance of helping locals minimise the costs for this small part of the fire impact.
"By sitting down together we've been able to come up with an approach that will allow council to support our water carting businesses by not charging for water delivered to affected properties.
"The carters are all private businesses and they will still have to charge delivery costs of the water, but the discounted supply will enable a reduction in costs to be passed onto the customers," said Mr Trotter.
Booking arrangements for delivery can be made through the customers preferred water carter and discounts will apply to water ordered and delivered by December 1 with timing to be reviewed after the first two weeks.
