The fire near Willawarrin has spread more than 4km in some areas since it broke containment lines at around 1.30pm today.
The Carrai East fire is spreading quickly and remains at an emergency level.
RFS public liaison officer Dave Nicholson told the Argus there are no current reports the blaze is threatening homes but the fire has reached east of Willawarrin.
"There is fire activity east of Willawarrin and near Temagog," Mr Nicholson said.
"The main fire activity is in the south-eastern edges of the fire and it's starting to spread quickly. It's producing a lot of heat and smoke."
Mr Nicholson said the situation is worsening as the winds increase and the humidity remains low.
Properties to the west of Kempsey should prepare to come under threat later this afternoon.

"There are significant winds blowing the fire east and it is moving quite quickly," Mr Nicholson said.
"The north-west edges of Kempsey may experience the fire front and the town centre will likely have embers fall but at this stage we don't think the fire front will reach the town."
