Macleay District Motorcycle Club (MDMCC) members Michael Rix and Kristian O'Donnell competed in the third and final round of the NSW state Road Racing Championships at Grafton last weekend, which was hosted by the North Coast Road Racing Club.

In difficult conditions due to the extreme temperatures on Saturday, the Riders and their tyres were pushed to the limits with the recently new surface and tyre heat loads catching out even the most experienced riders at times.
Michael Rix is gold coast based but calls the MDMCC home. Rix competed in two classes and qualified on pole for both, however he was caught out early in the meeting with a fall that left him chasing points for the overall championships for the rest of the meeting.
Unfortunately the fall was enough to cost him the state championship in the Dirt Bike Open, where he finished second by one point he also finished second outright in the Road Race Open Class.
"I came into the event in a good mindset knowing it was going to be close in the points for the state championships," Michael said.
"Unfortunately I made a mistake and it proved too much to regain the points I missed out on due to my crash on Saturday.
"It was a great weekend with the rest of the Kempsey Crew, particularly Tyler who was unable to ride due to an injury in Round one but was there to help us in the pits at the event. I'm extremely happy to finish with two seconds in the State Championships."
Kristian competed in the Road Race Rookies class and again it was another track he had never seen before the event.
After qualifying third, Kristian had probably the most challenging event of his short time in road racing.
A crash while leading the much more experienced field resulted in a small injury and a did not finish, a Jump Start penalty resulted in fifth overall for the round but he managed to finish second overall in the championships due to strong results in rounds one and two of the series.
"It was a hard weekend for me, I had the speed to match the other riders at the event but unfortunately, I was on the rough end of a few decisions and made a mistake while leading a race that left me with no other option but to just circulate in the last race to secure any points I could for the overall Championship," Kristian said.
"I'm happy to finish second in the state given this was only my fourth road race competition meeting.

Michael is competing at the Wide Bay Titles in Maryborough this weekend while Kristian is a rider to keep your eye on at the Akubra Classic on Sunday at the Greenhill Speedway Kempsey.
