Kempsey High School take out impressive wins at Beef Bonanza in Scone

The Beef Bonanza is one of the biggest cattle shows in Australia with around 800 students and close to 500 steers and heifers making their way to White Park in Scone for the competition.

The team from Kempsey High School took out Reserve Champion, Individual Champion and Champion team of four, as well as a number of other accolades over the tree day event.

"The students have worked tirelessly in their own time to prepare for the show, it's really impressive to see," Kempsey High Agricultural teacher Gavin Saul said.

"There's been a lot of leadership shown between the senior and junior students which is really great."

Kempsey High School were crowned champion team of four in the primal and retail ID and beef judging sections. The team consisted of Liam Whalen, Tom Harwood, Alex Schofield and Ruby Weismantel.

Tom Harwood took out overall champion in the beef judging section while Alex Schofield was awarded individual champion in the primal and retail ID section.

Overall state champion was awarded to Alex Schofield and reserve to Ruby Weismantel.

"It's the first time we've taken out both overall champion and reserve champion. It just shows how much hard work the students put into this," Mr Saul said.

Alex and Ruby, both humble about their wins, said the effort all of the students put in has paid off.

"It's really good to see the success in the school, especially with the younger years as well," Alex said.

"Kempsey High was really strong in Scone, but we had some strong competition."

"The support that the school has from Milly Hills and their workshops has really helped the younger students," Ruby added.

Another win was for Liam Whalen who took out reserve champion for judging.

"It's a great opportunity to go to the show for all of the students," Liam said.

"I just try to work hard at it and do my best."

Kempsey High School agriculture science teacher Linc Urquhart travelled with the students to Scone and said all of the students worked hard over the three days.

"They were working in really testy conditions, it was 36 degrees on one of the days and was pretty much a dust storm. But the students really stepped up and helped each other, they showed a lot of team spirit," he said.
