A general consensus among the more than 50 comments the article received on the Argus Facebook page suggested a recycling bin needs to be placed at the site.
"Why isn't there a bin supplied at the return and earn location?" One person asked.
"Considering it's all neatly stacked in one spot, they would have put this rubbish in a bin if there was one available. Most of it appears to be recyclable cardboard boxes so it would be a win win if there was a recycling bin near by," a local suggested.
The majority of comments also pointed out this was an issue at the Return and Earn site at the Kempsey Golf Club and a problem which occurs at neighbouring towns.
"This was the one at the (Kempsey) golf club on Monday," a local commented and posted the image below.
"It appears this is a very common problem the one at Macksville is always in this condition, I would think the obvious solution would be to put in large rubbish and recycling bins and then empty them at an appropriate frequency," one person commented.
"It is happening at many places. It is absolutely shameful here in Dubbo," a Central West resident said.
However, some locals claim people should simply look after their own rubbish.
"Take your rubbish home and bin it. It's not hard where else would the cardboard boxes go. People are always expecting things to be free and for others to clean their mess up," a comment read.
"Take your rubbish home with you and either put it in your own bins or recycle the boxes for next time??? Not that hard!" Another resident suggested.
