Ratcliff's Shy One was first past the post in race two and the horse was paying a mouthwatering $41 at fixed odds.
It was the first victory from the Shy One, who has seven races to its name.
The race day was moved from Port Macquarie to Kempsey and the home track advantage might have proved the difference.
Kempsey Race Club secretary treasurer John Graham was pleasantly surprised by the number of people who turned up to witness a great day of racing and was excited to see a local trainer get a victory.
"It's always good to see a local get a win and especially at such big odds," Graham said.
"It turned out to be quite a good day. It's hard to gauge through the week about how many people will turn up but there would have been a couple of hundred people."
The new saddling enclosure was unveiled and Graham said there was a great response.
"We had decided the old mounting yard was a bit small so we decided to extend it out and we received some great feedback," he said.
"It has even made the viewing area even better."
