Kempsey Macleay RSL, with only 69 members, were fortunate to have Grade two travel to St. Georges Basin for the finals and grade six go to Warilla.
The club's grade two team failed to perform against some strong opposition and were unable to pass the sectional stage, however our grade six side, although struggling in the sectional games, were very lucky to make the quarter finals with a win, draw and a loss.
In the quarters, Kempsey were up against the unbeaten local Zone 16 favourites Collies Orb, who had three impressive wins in sectional play.
Kempsey played excellent teams bowls and although only winning one rink were able to win the master board by 10 shots.
In the semi-final, Kempsey were again up against an unbeaten side from Eugowra (Zone 4), however, an all round brilliant performance saw them demolish the opposition 99 shots to 33, winning on all three rinks.
This set up another meeting with the unbeaten Mounties from Zone 12, who had narrowly defeated Kempsey in sectional play.
The final had Kempsey narrowly in front for most of the final, until forging away at the finish to take the 2019 State Grade 6 Title 64 to 46, two rinks to one.
There were several exceptional performances during the Finals, however the impressive part was the ability to play as a team to the Master Board.
The team wish to sincerely thank Chairman Paul and the Board for their generous support, CEO Daniel for his support and guidance, Green Keeper Graig for our excellent greens to play on and finally Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club for their hospitality, Club Liaison Officer Dallas Delatorre and many volunteers who contributed in the running of a great event.
The club is still checking records, but it is thought to be some twenty years since the club has won a State Flag.
The new State Champions are: Lachlan Cooper, Gav Kennedy, Shane Fuller, Kev Kennedy, George Mundy, Neil Swain, Phil Hickson, Terry Smith, Michael Woods, Col Young, Rob Cook, Robert Dykes, John Williams, Eileen Swain (Manager) and reserve Ron Kennedy.
The culmination of the State's Blue Ribbon Event, the State Pennant Finals, Grades one to seven were held at seven different venues from July 26 to 28.
