Secretary and committee member of Wigay Aboriginal Park Management Committee, Ruth Waite, said she hopes the community will get involved and contribute to the park.
"The park is now back in the hands of the community and we need people with different skills to come on board to lift the profile of the park," she said.
"It could be anyone who has time to volunteer at the park, artists, researchers, people to help with fundraising or helping with activities. We just need some people to get involved and bring new ideas to the committee."
Ruth has been a member of the committee for five years and, along with other members, has been working towards improving the park for the community.
"This is a park for everyone in the community to come and enjoy. We really want it to be a place where events can be held and cultural activities can be taught.
"The newly constructed stage is almost finished and the plan is to hold movie nights or sports presentations here. It will give locals another option as to where they can hold events."
The committee hopes people who are interested will bring fresh ideas to the committee and improve the park.
"We have a few activities planned to hold in the park like weaving and pottery and eventually we would like to have little markets here and work with the nursing homes for day trips for the residents.
"We just need some more people to get involved to get these events and ideas up and running, as well as maintaining the park for locals and visitors."
The Wigay Aboriginal Park Management Committee AGM will be held on August 13 at 1pm at Wigay Park.
