RECENTLY motorists had to endure a 40kph speed limit for eight months while council repaired the overtaking lanes at Bellimbopinni, only then to see them completely removed a short time later (what a waste of time).

Now when leaving Kempsey to travel to South West Rocks via Macleay Valley Way (old highway) - should you have the misfortune to get caught behind a truck or van, you are unable to pass until the Clybucca overtaking lanes (will they be next to go)? In areas where it's possible to pass the slow vehicles motorists are hindered by double white lines.
Then on reaching Plummer's Lane (which was recently upgraded) the motorist is faced with an 80kph speed limit and other vehicles travelling at speeds around 70/75kph in fear of exceeding the speed limit.
Both roads either side of the river to South West Rocks were once 100kph, but because of the lack of maintenance and a few complaints it was reduced to 80. So why is it that you can travel at 100kph to Hat Head, Crescent Head and even Willawarrin and Bellbrook on roads just as bad or even worse?
Is it revenue raising or cost cutting by council; council only listening to the minority; lack of funding to upgrade the South West Rocks road to appropriate conditions for its main road status or Macleay Valley Coast tourist group wanting everyone to drive slower to take in the wonderful scenery and soak up the atmosphere on your way to South West Rocks.
We locals regularly use these roads, because we live and work here and it has become a slow process in travel time.
