A national program providing emergency medicine training to doctors working in regional and rural Australia is coming to Kempsey District Hospital this Friday.

The Emergency Medicine Education and Training program, funded by the Australian Government and implemented by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, aims to build on skills in teamwork and clinical practice relevant to trauma management.
The day-long workshop, aimed at doctors and nurses from Kempsey District Hospital and local General Practitioners, will include interactive lectures, skill stations where clinicians work on specific aspects of emergency medicine and an emergency scenario conducted in real time using simulation equipment.
Port Macquarie Base Hospital's Director of Emergency Medicine and Training Dr Digby Hone said the training is designed to improve emergency care in rural and regional areas.
"The workshop is very practical and hands-on, with the use of a range of training tools along with equipment from the Emergency Department," Dr Hone said.
"This training is designed by specialist emergency medicine doctors and nurses and rural GPs from across Australia.
"It is the first time we will run the workshop at Kempsey District Hospital, so it will be of huge benefit to the Hospital's medical and nursing staff, as well as local GPs."
