There were originally 21 situated along the east coast of NSW and they were vital to the safe passage of shipping. All the buildings constituting the pilot station complex at South West Rocks are heritage listed by the NSW state government. This includes the various outbuildings and the scenic vistas associated with the pilot station's strategic location.
Boatman's cottage Number 1 houses the South West Rocks Maritime Museum, which houses displays pertaining to the historic shipping era and is open to the public seven days per week.
The tourist information centre also operates from this building. Both are staffed by volunteers. In Boatman's cottage Number 2 you will find examples of the art and craft produced by the members of the flourishing Arts and Crafts group.
New members are always welcome to the museum committee, the arts and crafts group and the South West Rocks Maritime Precinct Incorporated group whose purpose is to repair and manage the South West Rocks Maritime Precinct for the benefit of the Community and future generations.
On Saturday, March 9 at 10am the next general meeting of the South West Rocks Maritme Precinct Inc will be held downstairs in the School of Arts Community Centre, Gregory Street, South West Rocks. This will be followed by the Annual General Meeting.
New members are most welcome to attend, as are people who would like to take on a committee position. The initial cost of joining is $5 followed by an annual fee of $2 per year.
