A sprained ankle late last year, which prevented Carson Hudson from training in the lead up to the Country Championships held at Hunter Sports Stadium, didn’t stop the Melville High School student from leaping a personal best and claiming the gold medal in the long jump event.

Carson smashed his previous best jump of 5m and 17cm as he landed a 5m and 49cm to claim first.
Carson also backed up those efforts to claim bronze in the 100m and fourth in the 200m sprints.
The 14-year-old competed in scorching hot weather as the temperature gauges soared above 40 degrees. This resulted in the long jump event being reduced to three jumps instead of six.
The alteration didn’t deter Carson as he maintained his composure to make his three jumps count.
“Carson was extremely happy with his jumping and winning gold,” Carson’s mother Tiana Adamson said.
“In the sprint events, Carson was happy with his placing as it was only the second time he has run on a synthetic track.”
Carson also produced personal best times in the sprint events as he stopped the clock at 12.35 seconds and 25.23 seconds for the 100m and 200m events, respectively.

The Country Championships is a prestigious event and kids from all over country NSW travelled to compete in the competition.
Carson will look to repeat his success at the regional athletics carnival this weekend.
Carson has been training at a high level for the past two years and he’s hopeful of once again competing at state and national level this year.
The athletic youngster is trained three days a week by Richi Donovan at Scotts Head.
