The Macleay District Motorcycle Club has received the prestigious honour of being chosen as the Motorcycling NSW Club of the year for 2018.

The local club was selected as joint winners with Goulburn Motor Cycle Club.
Motorcycling NSW CEO Dave Cook was impressed with the determination shown by the Macleay District Motorcyce Club to build more facilities for their members.
“One of the biggest challenges motorcycling faces is the lack of venues to compete,” Cook said.
“The Macleay club has spent an enormous amount of time and hard work to build the new grass track and they needed to be rewarded for that.”
Cook also said the club’s dedication to developing the riders of the future played a part in the club receiving the award.
“The club has a strong focus on developing their juniors and they are of course the future of our sport and it’s really important to increase participation and development of junior riders,” Cook said.
Macleay District Motorcycle Club president Trent O’Donnell claims the acknowledgement is just reward for the hard work shown by the committee, volunteers, members and sponsors.
“The committee as a whole have worked really well together this past year,” O’Donnell said.
“It has been a club-team effort and a lot of hands have been involved in making 2018 so successful.
“The club also can’t run the events without our sponsors so a huge thank you goes to them too.
“It’s humbling to have the club’s hard work recognised.”
O’Donnell believes this is the first time the club has received the award.
The Macleay club was judged alongside clubs from all motorcross disciplines.
“It’s great to be recognised, as a small regional club, for all of the hard work put into further the sport in the state and country,” O’Donnell said.
“The people who judge the award have obviously noticed the difference the club is trying to make.”
The club president believes the club’s development over the past 12-months was the reason behind their selection as the top club in NSW.
“We have nearly 70 junior new riders, have lots of different initiatives, great options for junior coaching, promote new events and have created one of the only grass tracks in NSW,” O’Donnell said.
While 2018 was a huge 12-months for the club, O’Donnell is predicting next year will be even bigger.
“We are going from four dirt track events to six and from one grass event to six too,” O’Donnell said.
“It’s going to be a massive year with racing returning in February and our first major event will be in May as we are hosting the NSW Senior Dirt Track titles.”
