South West Rocks’ Harry and Finn Askew, who represent Tacking Point Surf Life Saving Club, and Zoe Crilley from Hat Head Surf Life Saving Club, were standout performers at the annual Surf Life Saving New South Wales Interbranch carnivals held at Blackhead Beach near Forster on the weekend.

The three Macleay competitors were picked in the Mid North Coast representative team and were impressive in their respective competitions.
Finn Askew’s win in the swim was one of the few “major” highlights, but team manager Melinda Cockshutt said it was arguably more pleasing to have less of those and more “middle of the pack” finishes.
The Mid North Coast branch finished in eight position in the overall championship and earned the highest points for quite some time.
"We had great results against competitors from other country clubs. The team raced hard, reflected and learnt from every race. They are motivated more than ever to increase their training in preparation for the SLSNSW Envirobank Country Championships held at Cudgen Headland in February," Cockshutt said.
“In the last six years it’s the most amount of points we’ve earned as a team in that time.”
SLSMNC Branch President, Rod McDonagh was impressed with the team’s effort.
"The results are very encouraging from the ongoing development of Surf Sports in the Mid North Coast Branch and the efforts of the team management should be acknowledged for their continued training and skill development across all disciplines. All competitors should be congratulated on their efforts to gain impressive results such as these at this high level carnival," he said.
The SLSMNC Branch Championships will be hosted by Port Macquarie SLSC at Flynn's Beach on Saturday January 12 and 13 for competitors from Under 8s to Masters.
