The Gladstone Evening Branch CWA presented a cheque for $800 to the Lower Macleay Education Network at Gladstone Public School today.

The money was raised at the inaugural community Christmas party hosted by the Gladstone Evening Branch CWA ladies on Friday.

Elizabeth MacDonald from Gladstone CWA said the money was donated to the Lower Macleay Education Network because of the great work the schools do in the community.
“We’re really lucky to have these schools. Everything begins with education and we wanted to focus on helping our smaller schools in the community,” she said.
The Lower Macleay Education Network is comprised of Smithtown, Gladstone and Kinchela Public Schools and the Lower Macleay Preschool.
“It’s wonderful to see a group of small schools come together, we become stronger when we’re together and this is what these schools show by doing just that.”
The money was raised through entry fees and delicious scones sold throughout the evening.
“We only started our CWA group in October and we’re already planning a number of events for next year including an Autumn festival and craft exhibitions, all to support local schools,” Ms MacDonald said.
Principal of Gladstone Public School, Rebecca Smith said the Lower Macleay Schools are thrilled with the support from the Gladstone CWA ladies.
“On behalf of all of the schools we would like to thank the Gladstone CWA ladies for the opportunity, the night was incredible. We really appreciate it,” she said.
