A memorial service will be held on Sunday December 9 at 11am to honour the six children who lost their lives in the bus-train tragedy in South Kempsey in 1968.

The service will mark the 50th anniversary of the accident and it will be held at the memorial garden on Middleton Street.
Margaret Barnett, Graeme Burley, Rosemary Lawrence, Sharon Perrott, Trixie Ramsay and Rhonda Searle sadly lost their lives. Many more were also seriously injured.
Former Kempsey resident, the Reverend Glen Pope will conduct the memorial service. This will be followed with a wreath laying ceremony by the surviving members of this tragic accident.
Family and friends will then be invited to come forward and lay their own flowers or a rose from the flower basket provided.
The tragedy rocked Kempsey to its knees in 1968. The town was a much smaller community.
If this horrific accident happened today, it would be viewed as a worldwide news event.
The short service is open to all who would like to attend.
The organisers of the memorial service hope everyone will join with the family and friends to show their support, comfort and to remind them that their loved ones will never be forgotten.

After the service everyone is invited back to the Kempsey Macleay RSL Club, where the RSL have made the Anzac Function Room available to display many photos and memorabilia.
It will be a time for reflection and reminiscing, and a chance to catch up with long but not forgotten friends.
The snack bar and dining room at the RSL Club will be available for those looking for a bite to eat. Complimentary tea and coffee will be available.
Please bring a chair to the service if you need to sit down, as seating will be limited.
