Rovers have suffered a number of close defeats this season utith a bit of luck, could easily be sitting further up the ladder.
However, Rovers bowler Matt Scott acknowledges the side doesn’t have anymore room for slip ups and the side needs to starting recording victories.
“We know our back is against the wall,” Scott told the Argus.
“You don’t plan on going into a season and only having one win from the first seven rounds, every team wants to be sitting on the top.
“In saying that, everyone thinks they will come up against us and have an easy win but we are a young, confident team and that will be our opponents downfall.”
Scott pinpointed the lead up to the competition break for the Christmas period as an opportunity to build momentum before the second half of the season.
“The biggest thing to turn our season around will be to win the next three games before the break,” Scott said.
“You don’t want to start after Christmas with only one win, it will make it a long back end of the season.”
Scott admits “it’s easier said than done” but he believes Rovers, who are in seventh position on the ladder, are still capable of premiership glory.
“We 100 per cent believe we can still make the finals and win the competition,” Scott said.
“You only have to finish fourth, win two games and you are premiers.
“It’s easier said than done but we know we have the ability to do it. We just need to be more consistent in all areas of our cricket.
“If we can do that, we will win the games that we need to.”
Fortunately for Rovers, despite only registering the single victory, they are only 12-competition points outside of a top four position.
If the club can string three wins together before the break, they will be well and truly in the hunt when play returns in February.
Rovers face off with last year’s grand finalists Wingham this Saturday.
