Rudders Lagoon has been an issue for Kempsey Adventist School and Crescent Head residents when it floods, with access being cut off quickly.
The issue was raised at today’s council meeting through a motion Councillor Leo Hauville put forward to send a letter of request to Melinda Pavey and the RMS to undertake an assessment of an interchange off the Pacfic Motorway for Crescent Head. However, the motion was lost.
One of Cr Hauville’s arguments for an interchange was the easy access for residents of Crescent Head during a flood.
“It would improve access to Crescent Head and would help to get students of Kempsey Adventist School out quicker if there was a flood, it would also benefit the residents of Crescent Head who work in Kempsey,” Cr Hauville said.
Although the original motion was lost, councillors agreed flooding on the Crescent Head Rd at Rudders Lagoon is an issue that needs to be addressed.
Councillor Bruce Morris put forward the motion to include investigations of options to raise the road which will be included in council’s next operating plan. The motion was carried.
