The Birthday Fun Carnival, which will be held at the Kempsey Pool Complex on Saturday December 8, is open to everyone.
There’s a fun day of activities planned, with the festivities commencing at 10.15am with games to be played for children under-8 in the children’s pool.
This will be followed by races at 11am for other small children in the 25m pool.
At 11.30am, there will be an official welcome by Mayor Liz Campbell and a birthday cake will be cut and shared.
Then the first featured event will take place at 11.45am. A special race will be held by men and women who are 80-years or older as they will swim the length of the 25m pool.
At the completion of the race, the second featured event will commence with men and women who are 50-years or older racing the length of the Olympic Pool.
From 12.30pm, races for older children and adults in age groups will take place in the Olympic Pool.
The races are all social events with the focus being on celebrating the longevity of the Kempsey Pool Complex.
Kempsey Swimming Club committee member Margaret Jopling has a long list of memories at the Kempsey Pool Complex.
“I have spent half my life at the Kempsey Swimming Pool,” Ms Jopling said.
“It means a lot to myself and to plenty of others. A lot of people have learned to swim there.”
Anyone can attend the birthday celebration and pre-entry isn’t required.
“Just turn up on the day,” Ms Jopling said. “The only fee is the pool entry fee of $4 for swimmers and $1 for spectators.”
A barbecue will be operating throughout the day.
