Nulla defeated a short-handed Macquarie side in their first game of the season as they lifted when the match was on the line and picked up crucial wickets which restricted the defending champions to 134 runs.
Nulla slipped up against the Pirates, as they suffered a loss on the road.
But they returned to their best on the weekend, defeating Macleay rivals Rovers in a dominant performance.
They now have an opportunity to prove they can match it with the best over their next three games, as they face three teams who competed in last year’s finals series.
Nulla captain Ben Taylor is currently unsure what to expect from his side, but he knows he will have an answer after the tough three-game stretch.
“It’s still hard to work out where we are at yet,” Taylor told the Argus. “We face three very strong teams over the next three weeks and we will have a better idea of where we are at after that.”
It’s no secret Nulla have one of the best bowling attacks in the competition but they are now in a position to do just as much damage with the bat as the ball as they were bolstered in the off-season by recruiting a number of specialist batsmen.
“I think you have to attack in this competition and the difference this season is we should have the batting depth to do it,” Taylor said.
Nulla were competitive last year, holding down a top four spot for the majority of the season before they dropped to sixth place after a final round loss to eventual champions Macquarie. However, they were equal in points with the fourth-placed and finals bound Wauchope RSL.
During the 2017-18 season, Nulla lacked the killer instinct. On numerous occasions, Nulla stamped their authority on a game and seemed destined for victory but they slacked off and allowed their opponents back into the match.
However, Nulla have shown this season they have learned from their past mistakes.
Nulla’s next task will be to face last year’s grand finalists Wingham on the road this Saturday.
