The idea came about through the plan to paddle to Point Plomer for some fun.
“I thought, if I’m going to do this, lets make it bigger and do it for a good cause,” Mr Mockridge said.
“If I didn’t validate it, it wouldn’t have happened at all.”
Ben looked at a number of charities to raise money for and decided on SLDO because of the work they do for people in need of organ transplants.
“I got the ok from SLDO to partner with them for this which is really great, they do a lot of positive work that is sometimes overlooked.”
SLDO raises awareness of the need for organ donors in Australia, they provide information on how to become an organ donor and they raise money to provide financial grants to patients who have organ failure and are suffering financially as a result.
“So far we have raised $2500 and we’re aiming to get to $5000 before December 1,” Mr Mockridge said.
Ben will be completing the 30km journey alone but a support team of Crescent Head locals will be out there with him.
“I’ll hopefully be in the water at sunrise on December 1, I’m aiming for the paddle to take me 5 hours to reach Crescent Head.”
A number of local businesses are supporting the paddle, including Blackfish Cafe, Crescent Head Foodworks, Crescent Head Aquatic Centre and On Point Surf School.
