The donation, raised through radio station Triple M Mid North Coast’s annual coin drive, will fund a diverse range of important paediatric and neo-natal equipment for the hospital’s Emergency Department, Paediatric Physiotherapy services and Maternity Unit.
The hospital’s Director of Nursing, Mary MacNamara, said she was amazed at the Macleay’s response to the campaign and thanked everyone involved, including Triple M, its listeners, campaign partner Woolworths, Kempsey Heights Bowling Club, South West Rocks Country Club and local businesses.
“We are always grateful for the support of our community, but events such as Give Me 5 For Kids really make you realise how generous and caring our community is,” Ms MacNamara said.
“$35,000 is a lot of money, and the Macleay should be rightly proud of its remarkable effort on behalf of sick and injured children, newborns and premature babies.
“We are so very grateful for your support, and so too are the local families whose children and infants rely on our services.”
Triple M Mid North Coast General Manager Mike Crowhurst said he too was amazed by the Macleay’s enthusiastic response to the fundraiser.
“Every year the support our local community has for this very important event amazes me,” Mr Crowhurst said.
“It is great to be involved and to also be able to see where the money goes in helping the children when they are in hospital.
“It is great to see our local community so invested in Give Me 5 For Kids.”
The donated equipment includes paediatric oxygen saturation monitor, a fetal monitor, paediatric physio aids such as a walking frame and therapy mats, a neonate resuscitation training mannequin and a humidifier.
This year’s Give Me 5 For Kids campaign on the Mid North Coast raised a whopping $99,769.42 for paediatric and neo natal equipment for hospitals at Kempsey, Macksville, Wauchope and Port Macquarie.
