South West Rocks proved far too good for Stuarts Point/Eungai on Saturday, as they set a total of 171 on their way to securing a 96-run victory.
Daniel Tinlin (68) and Dylan Mann (53) led the way with the bat for South West Rocks as they both surpassed the half century mark.
However, it was South West Rocks’ bowling which proved the difference as they were able to dismiss their opponents for 75 runs.
Tinlin, who played an important role with the bat, also made Stuarts Point/Eungai pay with the ball as he picked up five wickets and conceded only 13 runs from his seven overs.
Stuarts Point/Eungai’s opening partnership of Stephen Moorecroft (23) and Nick Paven (21) provided the side with a positive start to their run chase but they were the only two batsman to enter double digits.
A batting collapse occurred once Moorecroft and Paven were dismissed and Stuarts Point/Eungai added only 21 runs from their final seven wickets.
The round two victory for South West Rocks gives them the early lead in the competition after the opening round was washed out.
Meanwhile in the other first grade match, Nulla recorded a brilliant run chase to secure their first victory of the season against rivals Rovers.
In the grand final rematch, Rovers set a convincing total of 192 from their 35 overs.
Josh Brenton (47) and an unbeaten Allan Hutley (40) and Lachlan Munday (29) combined to score the majority of runs for the home side.
Nicholas Morrison was the pick of the bowlers for Nulla as he finished with two wickets and conceded only 14 runs from his six overs.
Nulla commenced their run chase in a positive fashion with Harry Mainey (38) and Ben Paix (36) setting an early platform.
However it was Adam Stutz (78), who was unbeaten and provided the game defining innings.
Stutz’s knock aided in Nulla surpassing Rovers’ total and gave Nulla a small bit of revenge for their grand final defeat last season.
Rovers had five bowlers pick up a wicket each.
Rovers will search for their first win of the season when they face off with the current competition leaders South West Rocks at the Athletics Oval this Saturday.
Meanwhile Nulla attempt to pick up back-to-back wins to start the year when they face off with Stuarts Point/Eungai at the Stuarts Point Oval.
The matches are scheduled to be two-day contests.
