Terese also picked up the Sue Zettyl Outright Female Navigator Award.
The husband and wife team of Richard and Terese was only bested by Scott Brown, who happens to be one of Richard’s best friends, in the outright and 1650 division.
The friendly rivalry reached new heights when the two entered the final round of the NSW Off-Road Championships only separated by 11-points, with Scott holding the advantage.
Richard wasn’t able to overcome the deficit but the competitor still believes it was a successful season.
“We had a very consistent year, we finished near the top at all of the meets and finished either first or second in our division,” Richard told the Argus.
“I’ve known Scott almost all my life, we grew up together, and we both were pretty motivated to try and beat the other.”
Despite a long history in the sport, Richard only returned to competitive racing three years ago, since then, his competitive drive has continued to grow.
“All our kids are grown up and moved out so we were looking for something to do and a off-road vehicle happened to be for sale in Kempsey so I bought it and rebuilt it and got back into racing,” Richard said.
“It started off as just a bit of fun but we are both competing to win now.”
While Richard finished in second position in his class last year, his overall success this year came as a surprise.
“I was shocked at how well we did,” Richard said.
“I didn’t think we would be capable of knocking off some of the other fast cars and finish so high outright.”
Richard and Terese will go around again next year and they are both hopeful they will be able to get bragging rights over their good friend Scott.
Richard would like to thank RaceTrans and Julius Tuning for their support throughout the racing season.
