Rovers Premier League captain Danny Powick has backed his young players to build on their performances from last year as they step into their second season in the Mid North Coast competition.

Powick admits the Rovers side struggled at times throughout the first year of the competition as their form differed from week-to-week.
However, Powick believes the experience and becoming another year older will aid in his players succeeding in the Premier League.
“We have a very young side and at times last year they felt the pressure as all young kids do,” Powick said.
“But they all showed promise too and they are very talented cricketers and I believe with the experience of playing at that level under their belts, they will be primed for great things this year.”
The majority of the Rovers Premier League side has returned for the 2018/19 season.
Jared Baldwin and Adam Broderick have moved on but Powick welcomes the inclusions of the experienced Callan McKiernan and the youth of Harry Nemme and Jai Woodger.
“Callan is a great top order batsman and I am hoping he will come in and set a platform for us early on,” Powick said.
“Jai will open the batting with Callan and he has proven himself to be a talented young batsman.
“Harry is a good and young fast bowler and he is capable of putting the batsman on the backfoot and picking up some wickets.”
Powick has set a challenge to his team; to start the season strong and reach the finals series.
“I want to make the finals and see what happens from there,” Powick said.
“I think the competition is very close. There wasn’t much separating the top four from the rest of the pack last year.
“If a couple of things went our way then we would have got a couple more wins and we could have been in the finals.”
The Rovers lost their first four games of the 2017 season, which proved too costly to overcome.
“The young guys get an opportunity to play at a higher level and there’s a larger variety of players they will face,” Powick said.
“It puts them out of the comfort zone which is only going to make them better players in the long run.”
Powick is looking forward to the season commencing in October and wished fellow Macleay side Nulla the best of luck.
Rovers have a bye for the opening round and their season will begin against the Port Panthers Pirates on October 20.
